Dogs on the Wall

FEBRUARY--2024

Views of a Farm Boy--Dedicated to promote Iowa agriculture and Iowa values--Robert Vaughn--Urbandale, Iowa  EMAIL:   vaughnrobert@me.com

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the works of thy hands. (KJV) (Psalm 143: 5).

"Dogs on the Wall"--If you thought I was going to show you real dogs, you are "barking up the wrong tree." So take a peek at the pics and I will explain later.

My View for the Month: Real dogs--no way! "Dogs on the Wall" is just a lead-in catch phrase for my blog this month."Walldogs" is actually the name of a group of artists that painted these wall murals in Wayne County towns last summer. This all began right here in Iowa when a group of artists gathered at Allerton in 1993. Their mission was to beautify the town walls. This event was the catalyst that has attracted artists to come together once or twice a year for other similar events. It sounds like there is no organized schedule, preferred location or even pre-assigned participants. However, the Walldogs movement has brought the joy of art to many communities throughout the world. I am very glad the Walldogs were true to their roots and returned to Southern Iowa for this special 30 year anniversary occasion (August 30-September 04, 2023). These 16 wall murals located in 8 different Wayne County towns are much more than beautiful works of art. They are also of historical significance (or a valuable history lesson) as they tell us pictorial Iowa stories of days past.
