IMMERSIVE

JUNE--2022

Special exhibits have been a scarce commodity the past two years, so I was excited to hear IMMERSIVE was coming to the Des Moines Art Center, March 12-June 05, 2022. Each of the four dark rooms (below) in the Art Center, featured light-sight-sound creations of each artist. (1) (Top) Matthew Willie Garcia--"We Carry Space and Time Within Us." (2) (Middle left) Ran Hwang--"Garden of Water." (3) (Middle right) Bill Viola--"Ascension." (4) (Bottom) Oxoram--"7even Stories High." The photos below,  don't do justice to these unique works of art.

Views of a Farm Boy--Dedicated to promote Iowa agriculture and Iowa values

Wait--I have a commentary. I really enjoyed IMMERSIVE and realize things like this are magnificent and a great inspiration to so many people. But as for me--I am just an Iowa Farm Boy. I am more in my element walking through the park or taking a ride in the Iowa countryside. That is why I am closing with a few Iowa scenes. No special sound, light, music or other enhancements needed. It all comes with the territory.

I warned you! These photos are nothing to write home about--but there is more here than meets the eye. Light, music and other multi-layered environments have been used to enhance art displays for many years. However, today's unbelievable technology make exhibits like this a true adventure. I don't know what else to say because you would have to be there to get fully "immersed in IMMERSIVE."

"To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. (NIV) (Isaiah 40: 25-26)
