VIEWS OF A FARM BOY
In years gone by, I used to run or ride my bike through Birdland Park enroute to downtown Des Moines. Occasionally, I would see a homeless person sleeping under this bridge (above) and I thought, "except by the grace of God, that could be me." Today, it was my turn to sleep under this same bridge--but mine was for show and tell! I set up camp as a pic-trick to promote a donation drive for the homeless. I will admit--this was a short nap! After a quick photo, I picked up my belongings and headed home to sleep in our warm house. However, there are still homeless people sleeping outdoors, in vehicles, in makeshift tents or under bridges, in and around the Greater Des Moines area. For a few people it is a lifestyle choice, but for most it is out of necessity-- either way they need our help. Our Creekside Church donation drive this year will go to JOPPA to provide SURVIVAL, SUPPORT AND HOPE for the homeless in our area. JOPPA has a really good success rate for helping the homeless transition back into society. After all, we don't want anyone "sleep'n under a bridge."

SLEEP'N UNDER A BRIDGE
Creekside Church will be having a collection drive for JOPPA to assist the homeless in our area, Storage is a problem--please donate only items currently needed from the list below.
Here is a suggested list for most needed items: Winter tents---below zero sleeping bags---tarps---laundry soap---dish soap---hand/foot warmers---toilet paper---full size shampoo---shaving cream---razors---toothbrushes---toothpaste---dental floss---full size body lotion---AA or AAA flashlight batteries---Nutritious canned foods with pull-tab lids (they do not have can openers)---warm winter men's gloves and thermal underwear are the only clothing items accepted. I
