SIGNS OF THE TIME

Signs of the Time--you were probably expecting something prophetic or philosophic, but that's not going to happen. The subject of my homepage this month is wall art so I probably should have called this, "Art in the Air."
Today, March 20, 2017 was the first day of spring. On days like this I often take a ride to the farm, or at least the countryside, but today I decided to ride around town with no goal in mind. Then, about a mile from home, I saw this huge signboard pointing across the street to the Natural Grocers. This building sets in the parking lot of the former Dahl's Foods/Pharmacy where I worked for many years. This simple high quality sign gave me the idea to drive around town and explore some current ads on other signs that have long been part of our Des Moines cityscape. I have noticed so many of the signboards have gone digital and glitzy. They are probably more effective as they are very noticeable and can cycle through two or three separate ads while I am waiting at a red light stop. It doesn't take much to make me happy so it was a fun outing for me to enjoy this non-digital "art in the air."

My view for the month: Signs of the Times--I promised you this would not be prophetic or philosophic, but as I look back on this advertising sign art, I have decided it probably has at least one section that is applicable to each of our lives.
