NEW NEWS NOW!  Today, November 27, 2021--a new unique skating rink opened in Johnston, Iowa. Below: Mayor Paula Dierenfeld cuts the ribbon.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

When our kids were little, we skated on the pond at Greenwood Park. There was always a caution to check out. If the light was RED we knew it was NO and we went back home. If the light was GREEN we knew it was a GO and we laced up our skates. Times have changed! It is always a GO at the new skating rink at the Johnston Town Center. The "ice" is synthetic so it is skateable year round. However, the plans are to pull up the surface and convert it to a splash pond during the hot summer months. I don't care whether it is skating or water play--I'm just glad this is a place for year round outdoor physical activities.

One more important message!! NOT NEW NEWS--but GOOD NEWS!
