VIEWS OF A FARM BOY

RETURN TO HOMEPAGE>>>>>>>

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. (ESV) (Genesis 1: 1-3)

LET THERE BE LIGHT

The Des Moines Water Works has provided clean-safe water to thousands of Iowans for many generations. I have ridden my bicycle through the Des Moines Water Works Park for many years. I have enjoyed the scenic trail as I watched people fish, fly model airplanes, play soccer and enjoy other sport activities. Des Moines always seems to be on top of the game, and now a new endeavor is under way to expand the recreational use of this unique 1500 acre park. The Lauridson Amphitheater (left) opened with its first venue in the summer of 2019.  It was a beautiful structure, but something seemed to be missing!  That something was light! The 45 pole lighted sculpture named "River Constellation" (right) was dedicated December 05, 2019.  It was a thought-out process and the poles were carefully arranged to mimic the paths of the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers. There is more going on in the area. A 3.5 million dollar tunnel is being constructed under Fleur Drive. This will connect the much used Gray's Lake Park with Water Works Park and greatly increase recreational activities in both areas. Construction has created havok along Fleur Drive--but be patient,--"There is LIGHT at the end of the tunnel"!
