Construction of the the new Des Moines Federal Courthouse, located at 111 Locust, began in 2019. Now, after many delays the FEDS ARE HERE! This new facility began all court operations in June, 2025.

This whole thing didn't come about without controversy. When the beloved old YMCA building was torn down in 2015, many people wanted a more aggressive use of this riverfront property. But it seems to me, downtown has adjusted reasonably well to the office space redesigned for residential use. And I think this simple new structure will be accepted as a compliment to our community,
