DRIVE THROUGH DELI

Not exactly a drive through Deli, but a vehicle drove through this iconic family owned business (December, 2018) prompting this  story.

The B&B Grocery, Meat, & Deli first opened by Archie and John Brooks on Des Moines South Side in 1922. It has been in this current location at SE 6th and Hartford since 1962.  This has been a family operated business for four generations.

B&B is famous for its deli and meat, but it has ice cream, groceries and more.

Just a couple of days before Christmas, 2018, an SUV crashed through the main entrance door of the B&B Grocery, Meat and Deli on Des Moines's South Side. That is why I called this "Drive Through Deli." The reports I read indicated the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. That is all I know and all I need to know--because no one was injured. I had heard about this family owned business many times and this incident was my incentive to check it out. Memories and the "olden days" are what I do best, so this was my type of adventure. If you would like to be greeted by kind and courteous people and have a great lunch in a museum type atmosphere--I would suggest you check out B&B. One more thing! This month's theme was March Madness so I was glad to see this basketball art (bottom) on one of the dining counters.

Now you see why they call these Killer Sandwiches. Jeannine and I split this huge tenderloin (upper right). Then we pulled a couple of stools from under the counter (upper  and lower left) and read the newspaper during lunch. I can actually remember these headlines, but I grew up in Western Iowa, so I read this in the Sioux City Journal.

Sports memorabilia from the past at B&B.

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and test you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. (NIV) (Deuteronomy 8:2)
